OMAN FAIR: The National Craft Council (NCC) has sent seven local
handicraftsmen to participate at the "Global Festival" a trade fair in
Oman to popularise local handicrafts in the international market.
These handicraftsmen have won first place at the National Handicraft
Exhibition last year displaying their skills on various fields such as
silver carving, dumbara mat weaving, laaksha, rush and reedware, lace,
batik and wood carving.
NCC Chairman Dammika P. Bandara said that the main target of this is
to provide direct market facilities for these handicraftsmen. It also
expects to get more foreign orders by displaying local handicrafts.
The NCC has provided air tickets on consessionary rates to 7
handicraftsmen.
The NCC pledges to provide further opportunities to local
handicraftsmen to participate in more trade exhibitions and to display
their artistic talents. |
