'Diri Sevana' housing project launched

TISSAMAHARAMA: Diri Sevana Housing Scheme was launched in 12
districts in the island on January 15 on the initiative of Minister of
Housing Ferial Ashraff.
This is the first housing project of the new Chairman of National
Housing Development Authority Mohamed Rafik.
The contribution of the beneficiaries are obtained under this
programme for the construction of houses.
Those who possess a plot of land but unable to set up a house due to
financial difficulties are eligible to get a house constructed under
this programme. They are awarded Rs. 50,000 each by NHDA. This is not a
loan but an aid. The technology for the construction of the house is
provided by NHDA. Roofing sheets will also be provided by NHDA.
The first project in Galle district was inaugurated at Kammalwatta in
Uragasmanhandiya in Karandeniya electorate.
At the inauguration 25 families who do not have proper shelter were
awarded a grant of Rs. 50,000 each to set up their own houses by the
Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction Gunaratna Weerakoone.
General Manager NHDA told the Daily News that 250 houses will be set
up within a period of three months under this housing project. |
