Good housing essential for conflict displaced - President
Duminda Guruge
COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapakse has requested the Sri
Lanka Red Cross Society to provide relief to North-East conflict
displaced in the same manner they treat tsunami victims.
The President made this request when a group of delegates from the
Red Cross led by its Chairman Jagath Abeysinghe called on him at Temple
Trees yesterday morning.
The President recalled the cooperation extended by the Red Cross and
other voluntary organisations to assist tsunami victims.
He requested the delegates to obtain the cooperation of the
International Red Cross Society to help those affected by the conflict.
Explaining the misery of the people in the North and East who were
battered by two decades of conflict, the President emphasised the
responsibility of the Government to provide good quality housing
facilities to those displaced by the conflict. |
