UPFA polls campaign intensifies from tomorrow

COLOMBO: The United People's Freedom Alliance's Local Government Elections Propaganda Programme 'Mahinda Chintana from door to door, village to village' begins from Nuwara Eliya tomorrow.

Steps have been taken to hold propaganda meetings under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapakse and Party Leaders on Provincial, District and Divisional levels.

Accordingly, the electioneering activities should wind up at midnight of March 27 and the propaganda work must be intensified during the ensuing 11 days.

The United People's Freedom Alliance contests 308 seats out of 330 seats at the Local Government Elections.

In addition, it fields independent candidates under two groups in the Trincomalee District, while EPDP organisation contests in Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts as an affiliate of the Government.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the Government has made all arrangements to hold the election in a free and fair manner.

He urged voters to turn up early at polling booths on March 30 without wasting the valuable franchise and make a correct decision for their prosperity at local level.
