Nuwara Eliya April festival on a grand scale

NUWARA ELIYA: Mayor of Nuwara Eliya P. D. Chandana Lal Karunaratne, with his resounding victory at the local polls for the second consecutive term will usher the Nuwara Eliya April Festivities, with School Band Display on 4th April, organised by the Education Department, Nuwara Eliya district, where over twenty schools will participate. Sarath Ekanayake, Chief Minister of the Central Province will be the chief guest, while Education Provincial Minister S. Arulsamy will be the guest of honour at this event.

Meanwhile, the Mayor with the Nuwara Eliya Festivities Committee has drawn up a full seasonal programme for the thousands of holiday crowds who are expected to flock at the city during the April season.

All hotels, Guest houses and private bungalows here have been heavily booked for the season. Mayor Chandana Lal Karunaratne said that his success in the recent local elections was purely due to his development works and improvements to Nuwara Eliya.

He also said that his Council will co-operate and work closely with the Government in power and President Mahinda Rajapaksa for further improvements and developments of the city of Nuwara Eliya in terms of the promotion of tourism and the ratepayers of the city.
