New Bangladeshi High Commissioner
COLOMBO: The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh with
the concurrence of the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic
of Sri Lanka has decided to appoint M. Shahadat Hossain as High
Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka in
succession to A.M. Yakub Ali, states a Foreign Ministry press release.
Round the world breakfast
COLOMBO: The National YWCA of Sri Lanka will connect globally not
through Electronic media, not through Air and Sea Transportation neither
through the Radio, Telephone nor any other communication device, but
through People. It is the YWCA "round the world breakfast" on April 24
which is World YWCA Day.
YWCA Women in over 100 countries will gather for a special
celebration of Women's leadership with a Breakfast Around the World. The
Breakfast in Sri Lanka will be from 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. on April 24
at the National YWCA Headquarters, No. 7, Rotunda Gardens, Colombo 3.
The Chief Guest will be Ms. Manel Abeysekera.
Felicitation ceremony
PANADURA: A ceremony will be held to felicitate Panadura Balika MV
Principal M/s D.S.U. Wijeratne for her service rendered during last 18
years, on her retirement on Friday (March 07) at 10.00 a.m at the
school. Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray will participate
as the chief guest at the ceremony organised by teachers, students and
their parents.

DeMATAGODA: The Old Girls Association of C/Khariya Muslim Balika Maha
Vidyalaya Dematagoda will hold a sale titled 'Jumble Sale - 2006' on
Saturday April 8 and Sunday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the
school premises.
Dr. Mrs. Marina Refai will be the chief guest. Mrs. F.H. Wahab and
Mrs. A.S. Shihana will be the guests of honour. The proceeds of the
event will go for the new building fund.

COLOMBO: His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of
Living Foundation is visiting Sri Lanka from today April 6-9. Now in its
Silver Jubilee Year, the Foundation has grown to be the world's largest
volunteer-based organization, spanning 144 countries across five
continents.
His Holiness will interact with the audience in a unique program
titled 'The Art of Living' - An interactive session with H.H. Sri Sri
Ravi Shankar, with music, meditation and wisdom' to be held at the BMICH
on Sunday, April 9 from 6.00 p.m. onwards.
New President of the College of Forensic Pathologists
COLOMBO: Professor Ravindra Fernando, Senior Professor of Forensic
Medicine and Toxicology and Director, Centre for the Study of Human
Rights, University of Colombo, will be inducted as the new President of
the College of Forensic Pathologists of Sri Lanka at 6 p.m. on April 8
at the Lionel Memorial Auditorium of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.
Minister of Science and Technology Tissa Vitharana will be the Chief
Guest. Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Judicial Reforms, Suhada
Gamlath will be the Guest of Honour.

Battaramulla :The Inaugural ceremony to hand over Transit Centers for
the street people will take place at 9.30 a.m. at the Auditorium of the
Urban Development Authority, 17th floor, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla with
the Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare K.N. Douglas
Devananda as Chief Guest.
"Musaeus Miyasi Wasanthaya"
COLOMBO: The Aesthetic Section of Musaeus College is presenting an
Oriental Musical evening titled "Musaeus Miyasi Wasanthaya on April 7 at
the BMICH commencing 6.30 p.m. in order to bring out the aesthetic
talents of our budding students.
All the professional artists namely Dr. Amara Ranatunga and Dayaratne
Ranatunga, Edward Jayakodi and Charitha Priyadarshani Peiris, Latha
Walpola and Amith Walpola, Kolitha Banu Dissanayake and Kasun Kallara
will perform at this colourful event to the music provided by the
oriental orchestra of Musaeus College.
More than 700 students will perform.
Concert Colombo :Prof. Manfred Siebald (Singer, Song-writer and
acoustic guitarist) will perform in Colombo with Noelin Honter and
Shyami Ratnam. They will be presenting Gospel music on April 20 at St.
Michael and All Angels, Polwatte, Colombo from 6.30 p.m. onwards.
Death of Jayampathi Rupasinghe
CHILAW: The death occurred yesterday of Jayampathi Rupasinghe,
President of the Galle and Matara Labour tribunals. Rupasinghe was
59-years old. A lawyer by profession he was the brother of the late
Amarabandu Rupasinghe, one of the most renowned Sinhala announcers of
his time. His funeral takes place today in his native place in Chilaw.
MCSL says thank you
COLOMBO: The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) has thanked and
appreciated Minister of Tourism Anura Bandaranaike for getting the
Cabinet approval on a proposal for identifying of all meats by words and
pictures for the comfort of tourists, with making it mandatory for all
establishments displaying food for sale to attack identification tags on
all meat products.
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka's statement: the Muslim Community is
very grateful and extremely thankful giving for this constructive and
meaningful measure taken and giving due consideration the food
restrictions that the Muslims are subject to by their faith, especially
vis a vis the "Halal" factor.
That such forward thinking action not only appreciated by all
communities who are subject to certain food restrictions, but no doubt
especially from the Mid-East region.
Merril Goonetilleke appointed JP
Kandy:Merril 'Ford' Goonetilleke is the Master Builder in Kandy. He
has recently been made an All-Island Justice of the Peace for his
achievements, commitment to a cause and for his total integrity.
Merril's name as a builder with his vast knowledge as a civil
construction engineer is on a number of imposing buildings in Kandy and
its periphery.
At Trinity to which he has pledged his expertise and his service he
has had a hand in building the Science Block, the extension o the
archives and library project, the administrative block and the
restructuring of the Pallekelle Rugby Stadium.
