for lunch the Commons has no such barriers.

Commons menu is extensive with over 120 items, that the customer has
a great choice of food, coffees and beverages to choose from.
The milk shakes are the favourite among most customers. The sandwich
bar serves different varieties of bread with over 15 different fillings.
Commons Melt sandwich is a Commons specialty.
Health conscious customers have a choice of soups, salads and grilled
items. Some of the other sumptuous dishes are waffles, choice of
burgers, choice of hot dogs, choice of pastas, rice dishes, wraps, pies,
variety of crab dishes and many more.
There are Special menus introduced from time to time. For those who
have a sweet tooth there is a choice of desserts.
The venue is available for private functions such as cocktail
parties, birthday parties.
The Commons Coffee House is Managed and Operated by Harpo
Productions, and is celebrating the first anniversary under the new
Management on May 4.
A 15 per cent discount will be offered to all customers on May 4, 5
and 6. Commons has lined up some exciting promotions for the customers
which will commence in June.

UK tourists on mission to help tsunami children
PAMUNUGAMA: David Hucker and Peter Hucker, two Britishers who
are involved in missions to help poor children around the world, arrived
in Sri Lanka for the first time, last week.

They were accorded a warm welcome at the Villa Palma Beach Resort,
Pamunugama, by the Hotel's Manager Eric Rodrigo. During their stay here,
they will build a community centre at a cost of over Rs. 5 lakhs, and
distribute clothing, school requirements, toys, etc. to tsunami affected
children.

Manager, Villa Palma Beach Resort Pamunugama and his very friendly
staff," David Hucker said.
"We selected the Villa Palma due to its superb location, overlooking
the beautiful beach of Pamunugama", David said.

POLONNARUWA: Built in 1870 as a circuit bungalow for British
Government Agents, it was taken over by the Ceylon Tourist Bureau in
1954 and named Polonnaruwa Rest House.

The Ceylon Hotels Corporation (CHC) took over the rest house in 1968,
after which there has been a marked improvement in the services offered
to tourists.
The rest house now has 10 star class guest rooms including the
'Queen's Room' built in 1954 to mark Queen Elizabeth's visit to Sri
Lanka. In 1954 a tastefully designed restaurant, overlooking the
Parakrama Samudra, was built to offer guests a panoramic view of the
blue waters of the Samudra.
The rest house now has two restaurants which could accommodate over
150 guests. All guest rooms have been refurbished with beautiful
interior decor.

Polonnaruwa Rest House is popular with foreign tourists and Sri
Lankans as a base to visit a host of tourist attractions in the Cultural
Triangle. The main attraction is the Parakrama Samudra which overlooks
the rest house.
The rest house organises safaris to Minneriya and Wasgamuwa National
Parks and cycle safaris to Polonnaruwa ancient ruins.
The museum adjoining the rest house and the Nissanka Latha Mandapaya
- Nissanka Council Chamber - with ruins of King Nissankamalla's palace,
are also tourist attractions at Polonnaruwa Rest House.
CHC opens 'Avanhala' at Leisure World
KURUNEGALA: The newest addition to the Ceylon Hotels
Corporation (CHC) portfolio is an 'Avanhala' at the Leisure World in
Kaluaggala.
It was opened last week by CHC Chairman Lakshman Samarasinghe and
Director Operations, Harsha Thewarapperuma.
"CHC, a leader in the leisure sector, is committed to offer the
general public quality food at affordable prices," Director, Operations,
Harsha Thewarapperuma said.
He said that the 'Avanhala' at the Leisure World will offer
mouth-watering pastry items, hot dogs, hot and cold sandwiches and
different varieties of cakes.
To wash these goodies down, hot and cold drinks which will be 'easy
on your purse' are served at the 'Avanhala' at the Leisure World. Most
of the products are made in-house and will be dished out hot-hot,"
Thewarapperuma said.
"After the take over of the Ceylon Hotels Corporation's major share
by the Galle Face Group, quality and standards of both the products and
services have improved tremendously in all rest houses, hotels, motels
and outlets owned and managed by the CHC.
The vision of the Group Chairman, Sanjeev Gardiner is to provide
quality food at a reasonable price and provide comfortable room
