Proposed EU ban on Tigers an impetus to peace process: prelate

KANDY: The proposed ban on the LTTE by the 25 member European Union is a great impetus to the peace process pursued by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said Ven. Pandita Moragolle Jinaratana Nayake Thera, Parivenadhipati Urapola Sri Abhayaraja Pirivena and General secretary Kandy District SLFP Bhikkhu organisation.

Ven. Jinaratana Thera said the proposed EU ban will put a fullstop to the LTTE fund raising activities in the 25 Member States.

The EU ban is a timely act which would unmask the LTTE which tried to pose off as the sole representatives of the Tamils while engaging in a campaign causing destruction to life and property belonging to all communities, he said.

He said President Rajapaksa is trying to find a lasting solution to the national problem by building a consensus among all political parties and sections of the people and it is the duty of all to support and strengthen the President's hands at this juncture to help him achieve that noble aim.
