Homagama Maha Vidyalaya wins school drama competition

MAHARAGAMA: To mark the World Red Cross day Colombo district Red
Cross Society conducted a short drama competition among the schools in
the Colombo district.
The theme of the competition was 'Serve the Mankind'. The drama
Apekama of Homagama Maha Vidyalaya won the first place and Maharagama
Youth Group won the 2nd place and the 3rd place was secured by Mahamaya
Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.
The awards presentation ceremony for the drama competition and the
anniversary ceremony was held, at D. S. Senanayake Vidyalaya, Borella
recently. Five old members of the Red Cross Society who had served for
the upliftment of mankind through Red Cross movement were honoured and
felicitated at the ceremony.
They are the Country Director of CCF-Sri Lanka (Christian Children's
Fund) Gamini Pinnalawatte, Monty Samarasekara, Piyasiri Rajapaksa, D. M.
Sumanadasa, H. S. Siriwardane and M. D. Manathunga.
"Red Cross does not wait till the needy comes to them. They go to the
needy and help him. That is the policy of the Red Cross Movement," said
the National President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross movement, Jagath
Abeysinghe.
The country coordinator of the Japan Red Cross Society Takotho
Misawaki, the chairman of the youth unit of Colombo Red Cross Society
Janitha Wickramasinghe, members of the youth unit Gayan Wasantha, Isuru
Maduranga, Ajith Amarasuriya and Kumari Kotalawala were present. |
