Twenty/20 cricket carnival at Ukuwela
Kandy Sports Corr.
CRICKET: A twenty-20 overs cricket carnival has been organised by the
Ravi Punchihewa Cricket Academy (RPCA), Matale at the S.B. Yalegama
Stadium in Ukuwela on May 27 and 28.
Ravi Punchihewa briefing the media said that this cricket carnival
has been shifted to the suburb of Ukuwela as the only Public Ground
available at Matale which is the Bernard Aluwihare Stadium is still not
fit to play cricket as there is no proper pitch to lay the matting.
This has inconvenienced schools and clubs in Matale for the past six
months. The Matale Municipal Council should do something to expedite
this matter and keep alive cricket in Matale. In the absence of a proper
ground, schools and clubs are compelled to play their home matches away
or at the Dambulla Stadium which is over 40 kilometres away.
This cricket carnival is sponsored by Kumar Samarasinghe Managing
Director of Samrasinghe Opticals, Matale.
The teams which will participates in this cricket carnival are from
the Ravi Punchihewa Cricket Academy (RPCA). The under-15 tournament will
see RPCA 'Greens', RPCA 'Blues', RPCA 'Crange', RPCA 'Silver', RPCA 'Golds',
RPCA 'Whites'. The under-17 championship will see a straight fight
between RCPA 'A' and RPCA 'B'.
