LTTE attempting to instigate communal discord - Minister Devananda

COLOMBO: The innocent Sinhala citizens of this country are not opponents or enemies of the Tamil speaking people.

Yet the LTTE is attempting to instigate a communal discord among the people to gain political mileage at the expense of the lives of innocent Sinhala people, stated Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare Douglas Devananda in a media release following the Kebithigollewa carnage of June 15.

The massacre of 64 innocent civilians at Kebithigollewa on June 15 is part of this process. It was a barbaric, cruel, inhuman and cowardice act transgressing the entire human civilization, the media release said.

Behind the numerous pre-planned massacres and murders carried out by the LTTE terrorists, targeting the innocent workers in the North, East and in Colombo, there is a fatal trap to rouse large scale communal disharmony, the benefit of which the LTTE dream to reap out of international goodwill.

The peace loving people, whether Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim, have a great responsibility before them not to fall a prey to this trap.

We, the members of the E.P.D.P. are deeply sorrowful of massacres of this nature but we are not surprised because the LTTE who are hostile to their own people and to the Muslim people have no reason to spare the Sinhala people, the media release said.

Perpetrators of violence against humanity are destined to get erased off with no trace of their dust. That is the nature of human history.

The time when the people of all communities in this country begin to co-exist in harmony and prosperity is not far away. Let us unite for that purpose, said Minister Devananda in his media release.
