Navy assures safety of vessels
The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday said that it has
taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Colombo Port
and vessels calling at the port. Navy Spokesman Commander D.K.P.
Dassanayake told the Daily News that the Navy has intensified
security in and around Colombo Port and used additional security
personnel in surveillance operations.

Industry opposes move to pay in US $ for air tickets
The move to introduce payments of airfares in US
dollars has come in for criticism from the travel sector. The Board
of Airline Representatives (BAR) at their last meeting decided to
introduce the payment of airline tickets in US dollars. This is
expected to come into effect from October 1.

Cabinet nod for Galigamuwa Industrial Estate
Cabinet approval has been granted for the
Galigamuwa Industrial estate in the Kegalle district. Additional
Secretary to the Ministry of Industrial Development R. V.D.
Piyatilake said they have estimated around Rs. 200 million for the
development of this 50 acre industrial estate.
