COLOMBO: Duminda Gomes, brother of Army sergeant Roshan Gomes
the driver of the Major General Parami Kulathunga who died in the tragic
blast last week said his sister-in-law was so shocked by the death of
her husband that she was not in a position to come to the Court to give
evidence.
Duminda Gomes made this observation before Colombo Additional
Magistrate Ms Darshika Wimalasiri at the magisterial inquiry into the
death of Army Sergeant Roshan Gomes, the driver of Major General
Kulathunga.
Gomes said that his brother was attached to the Panagoda Army Camp
and worked as the driver to the Major General Parami Kulathunga.
He said he heard about this incident over the radio while he was
working and called his brother's wife K.D. Priyangika. As she informed
him that Roshan went for the duty he called the Panagoda Army camp.
Duminda was informed of the blast and he was told that Roshan was
admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Gomes said that at the hospital he was told that his brother too
expired but he could not witness the remains of the brother. When he
went home later a policeman from Wadduwa informed them to go and
identify the body of brother at the Colombo National Hospital. His
sister-in-law fainted by that time and she could not go to the hospital.
Duminda identified the body of his brother. His brother, Roshan
Gomes' remains were buried at the Waskaduwa cemetery. He said that his
sister-in-law was so weak she could not come to the court to give
evidence. |
