Schoolgirl run over by CTB bus

AVISSAWELLA: A CTB bus ran over a schoolgirl, killing her on the spot at Thalduwa junction, Avissawella early yesterday morning. The bus which was carrying around 40 passengers from Avissawella to Bulathgopitiya knocked down the 17-year-old Dehiowita National school student, Avissawella Police SI K. Ariyaratna said.

According to SI Ariyaratna, the bus had stopped at Thalduwa junction load passengers during the morning rush hour. "It seems that the driver had rushed to start the bus and the girl had fallen from footboard. She was trapped under the back tyre."

The driver and conductor were taken into custody.

The driver and conductor had claimed that they did not see the girl getting into the bus.
