New Ratgama Police Station commissioned
RATGAMA: The new Rathgama Police Station, reconstructed at a cost of
over Rs. 40 million provided by the Japanese Government was opened by
Nobuaki Ito, Charge d' Affaires of Japanese Embassy and DIG Kumarasiri
Gamage. The Government of Japan has provided assistance for the
reconstruction of six new police stations, affected by the tsunami.
In addition, the reconstruction of Ahangama, Kosgoda ,Hikkaduwa,
Dikwella and Kirinda Police stations is in progress. The Kirinda Police
Station is nearing completion and is due to open shortly. The Japan
International Cooperation System (JICS) is implementing the project in
collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka.
The reconstruction of this police station was made possible from the
US $ 80 million (approximately Rs. 8 billion) granted by the Government
of Japan, aimed at assisting the post-tsunami rehabilitation and
reconstruction efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The grant was also utilised for the reconstruction and rehabilitation
of a wide range of sectors including fisheries, water and sanitation,
health, education, housing, energy and roads. |
