COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the main Opposition
United National Party (UNP) will meet tomorrow to explore a common
ground on how to approach the National problem, political sources said.
The first meeting will take place at the Parliamentary Complex. The
SLFP delegation will comprise Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake,
SLFP General Secretary Minister Maitripala Sirisena, Minister Mangala
Samaraweera, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Minister Jeyaraj
Fernandopulle.
UNP deputy Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the party would nominate
members to chair the committee today. The committee will be led by the
party Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya.
"We will nominate members today," he said, referring to the committee
that will hold discussions with a similar SLFP committee.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Opposition Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe on Monday had a successful round of talks and the party
leadership agreed to appoint two committees to strike a common ground on
the ethnic issue so that the main Southern political parties will be
able to speak in one voice. |
