Global community must keep eye on LTTE activity - Defence Spokesman
COLOMBO: The Government yesterday said it needs a personal assurance
from LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on the LTTE's commitment to
peace and requested the international community to play a more active
role in checking LTTE activities in internationally.
Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said Sunday's
incident where the troops destroyed a vessel carrying heavy weaponry for
the LTTE off the Eastern coast proves the LTTE was not genuine in their
offer to come to talks.
"We have experience dealing with them for past 23 years," he said
adding that the LTTE come to negotiations when they are militarily week.
He questioned as to why the LTTE was trying to strengthen itself
militarily if it was genuine in their offer to talk.
"We ask the international community led by the Co-Chairs to put more
effort to check LTTE activities internationally," he said. |
