Slimline felicitates SA Games medallists

FELICITATION: Slimline, one of Sri Lanka's leading sports promoters,
felicitated its 10th South Asian Games medallists at a ceremony held at
its factory premises in Pannala last week.
A total of 14 medals, including three golds, have been won by
sportsmen and sportswomen from MAS Holdings, the parent company of
Slimline. Slimline, which comes under garment giant MAS Holdings, has
played an active role in sports promoting, providing many employment
opportunities to some of the leading as well as up and coming sportsmen
and women.
Their medallists represented Sri Lanka in athletics, boxing, shooting
and wushu. Apart from providing employment to needy sportsmen and women,
MAS Holdings has grated many sports sponsorships, including a Rs.one
million for the recent Sri Lanka-Vietnam dual boxing meet.
Slimline has its own sports stadium complex in Pannala which has been
the training venue for the Sri Lanka national boxing team with all
necessary facilities. Chairman of the MAS Holdings, Mahesh Amalean has
shown a keen interest in lending a helping hand to country's budding
sportsmen and women and has extended his fullest support to his Group
Director Dian Gomes, the energetic President of the Amateur Boxing
Association of Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Vice President of the National
Olympic Committee, Dian Gomes said it is an honour to have several
champion sportsmen and women who have brought honour to Sri Lanka. He
commended the feats of triple jump gold medallist Chaminda Kumara and
women's wushu team.
Amongst the other silver medallists were boxers Harsha Kumara and
Indika Kumara, who had to be satisfied with silver medals after some
unfortunate decisions in the finals, and veteran shooter Ruvini
Abeymanne. |
