Ratmalana and Siviraja Deaf Schools clinch volleyball titles
VOLLEYBALL: The school for the Deaf, Ratmalana won the Caltex Trophy
(Boys) while Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa won the Caltex
Trophy (Girls) at the Deaf Schools Volleyball Tournament 2006, which was
played at the National Youth Services Council, Indoor Stadium,
Maharagama, recently.
Fourteen teams from eight deaf schools in Sri Lanka, comprising eight
boys and six girls teams participated.
The tournament was organised by the Deaf School Past pupils'
Association from the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana spearheaded by
Shivantha Vivekananda, President and Chairman-Organising Committee and
partnered by Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited for the fifth successive
year.
In the Boys Finals the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Yasodara
Deaf and Blind School, Balangoda, 25/14, 25/12, 22/25 and 25/20 while in
the Girls Finals, Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat The
School for the Deaf, Ratmalana 25/9, 25/15 and 25/10.
Anushka Sampath from The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana and Singithi
Ishaka Fernando from Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa were
adjudged the best players in the boys and girls categories.
The Chief Guest at the finals was Chandana de Silva, Head of
Corporate Communication, Sri Lankan Airlines and the Guest of Honour was
A. Abeyasinghe, Zonal Manager, National Savings Bank. Both gave away the
awards.
