Sri Lanka seen as vital in growing international education market

APPOINTMENT: University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) held an awards ceremony to felicitate outstanding scholars who achieved highly in their Cambridge International O Level and A Levels.

The ceremony was held at the British Council office in Colombo.

CIE is the world?s largest provider of international qualifications for 14 to 19 year olds and has been at the forefront of providing quality education to students of International schools in Sri Lanka.

Over 50 student achievers from various schools were present on the occasion with their teachers.

The chief guest on the occasion, Pakistani High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Shahzad Aslam Chaudhry, along with other dignitaries gave away the certificates to the student achievers.

CIE?s Regional Manager, South Asia, William Bickerdike said ?This event is to acknowledge and reward the consistently high standard of Sri Lankan students studying Cambridge qualifications. We congratulate the students for gaining such outstanding results.

They should be proud to have gained qualifications that will help provide a solid foundation for them in the coming years.

?The Cambridge philosophy is to develop syllabuses which allow students to become independent learners, to equip them with the skills to continue to learn throughout their education and working life.

We encourage students to explore subjects for themselves. Memorising the textbook is a thing of the past - we want students to think for themselves to solve challenging situations.

This approach to learning not only makes school more exciting for students but it also provides excellent preparation for university and the world of work.?

?CIE looks at Sri Lanka as an important country in the growing market of international education. Sri Lanka is very open to new ideas and new ways of helping young people develop into successful students,? he added.

William introduced Nirmali Hettiarachchi, CIE?s newly appointed Regional Representative for Sri Lanka to the audience, who is a renowned educationalist and one of the pioneers in the area of education in the country.
