Local artistes feted for services, talents

COLOMBO: Thirty two artistes of different art streams were felicitated by the Cultural Affairs Department at its Golden Jubilee celebration at the John de Silva Theatre recently.

They have never been felicitated before by any person or organisation for their service and talents. Another six veteran artistes recieved special Golden Jubilee Awards.

Releasing a first day cover and cassettes of songs sung by amatuer singers, presenting awards for 50 artistes, launching classical book series, felicitating retired directors of cultural affairs and re-printing valuable books are among events organised by the Department to mark its Golden Jubilee.

Awarding Kala Bhooshana awards to recognise prominent artistes, releasing literary books, managing library services through Jayanthi bookshop, assisting Kalayathana scattered countrywide, conducting the State Television Awards Festival are among the services delivered by the Cultural Affairs Department.
