Kasun shines in Ratnam's win

SOCCER: Sri Lanka's striker kasun Jayasuriya with three goals and M. Rawny one helps Ratnam SC register a good victory over Air Force in their Kit Premier League Soccer Encounter on Saturday at Sugathadasa Stadium.

This victory also gave the Kotahena team, the chance to stay on the top spot in the overall standings with 29 points.

Jayasuriya put side in front with two early goals in the 15th and 36th minutes. Rawry extended this lead in the 40th minute for Ratnam SC to go for lemons with a solid 3-0 lead.

Saunders Sports Club who are making a strong comeback came up with another top class performance to beat Police Sports Club three goals to one.

One time strong man in the national team M. Amanulla put his side into the lead 29 minutes into the game. Lemons were taken with Saunders SC in front 1-0. After the turn around T.F. Jamaldeen (1) and C.S. Samarasekera (1) with their goals confirmed their victory. Just two minutes away from the final whistle S.M. Rafeek got a consolation goal for losers Police SC.

Kandy York Sports Club created a major upset when they trounced Sri Lanka Army two goals to nil. P.H. Chaminda scored the first for Kandy team fifteen minutes into the game while the second goal for the winners was scored by B.L. Prasanna in the final minute.

Blue Star Sports Club who are hoping to reach the top position too got a very useful victory on Saturday when they overcame Renown SC from Kotahena one goal to nil. The solitary goal for winners

was netted in by F.M. Fawzan in just four minutes from the word go. Renown tried every possible way to get the equalise, but failed to achieve this as Blue Star defenders stood firmly to halt the onslaught. Blue Star SC too could not go on the attack as they had to work hard to stall attacking opponents.

In the Segment 'B' leaders Jupitors SC from Negombo had to settle for a one all draw with Red Sun SC from Gampola. Both goals were scored in the first-half. C.S. Amaradasa in the tenth minute for Red Sun and L.T. Kiawu in the twenty fifth minute.

The team from Slave Island Java Lane SC had things easy as they overcame Kalutara Park SC five goals to one. The highlight in this game was the performance of K.U.N. Wasantha who scored four goals out of five while the fifth goal came from the boot of M.N.M. Meene in the 89th minute. The Old Bens - New Youngs SC match ended in favour of the Kotahena team 2-1.

Anthony Prabagar booted both goals for winners. The consolation goal for losers came during the extra time through K.T.S. Perera.

The clash between Matara Sports Club and Golden Star Sports Club ended in a nil all draw.

Segment 'A': Kandy York SC beat SL Army SC 2-0, Blue Star SC beat Renown SC 1-0, Ratnam SC beat Air Force SC 4-0, Sunders SC beat Police SC 3-1.

Segment 'B': Red Sun SC drew with Jupitors SC 1-1, Java Lane SC beat Kalutara Park SC 5-1, Golden Star SC drew with Matara SC 0-0, Old Bens SC beat New Youngs SC 2-1.
