The Sri Lankan reluctance must be understood, not
as some quirk of the Sinhalese, still less of Mahinda Rajapaksa (or
the JVP). An island which is culturally distinct from the mainland
and has a history of battling incursions from it, strives to
preserve that which it considers essential to its distinctiveness
and which permits the maintenance of such distinctiveness.

Anton Balasingham - ambassador of subterfuge and deception
Anton Stanislaus Balasingham died on his
birthday. The Sri Lankan press has worked overtime to show
Balansingham as a public enemy No. 2 after Prabhakaran, who referred
to him as 'Bala Annai'. Prabhakaran had called Balasingham "the
voice of the Tigers".
