Police after suspects in robbery case

TISSAMAHARAMA: Tissamaharama police is yet to determine suspects in a robbery involving jewellery worth of Rs. 196,000 and cash Rs. 77,000, taken away from a doctor at Debarawewa Hospital while he was practising at his residence on December 31 after recovering part of the loot yesterday along with Rs. 45,000 which was in the backyard of the doctor's private dispensary.

Two suspects had broken into Dr. A.A. Ruwankumara's house around 7 pm on Sunday and had got away with the money and the jewellery after threatening to kill his one and half years old son by pointing a knife at the infant's neck.

The OIC of Tissamaharama police station, J.S. Karunasinghe said that the suspects had their faces covered.

He said that there were two maids working for the doctor, one at his residence and the other at the dispensary.

"We found the stolen jewellery and part of the stolen money from the backyard of the house this morning," said the OIC.

"We suspect an inside support to conduct this robbery," he said.

The investigations continue under the directions of OIC Karunasinghe.
