PM calls upon people to help Govt wipe out terrorism
COLOMBO: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake in a media release
yesterday condemned the LTTE bomb attacks in two passenger buses at
Nittambuwa and Meetiyagoda last weekend and described the two explosions
as inhuman acts of the terrorists which demanded the recognition of 2007
as the year of annihilation of LTTE terrorism.
Conveying his condolences and those of the people, the Premier stated
that the LTTE which is now facing shameful defeats in the North and the
East have started to resort to a mania of killing innocent civilians
indiscriminately in order to hide their utter shame.
The LTTE terrorists have no religion, no sense of justice or any
respect for human life. Their violent targets ignore race, age or sex.
The victims of the two explosions included infants. The murderous
activities of this nature on the part of the LTTE terrorists cannot be
ended with any amount of retaliation by the Government alone.
The co-operation of the masses irrespective of communal consideration
is essential to contain terrorism, the Premier stressed.
He called upon the people to exercise patience under the current
situation and be alert about suspicious objects in public places and
join hands with the Government to identify and eliminate the common
enemy of the people.
