Enhanced endeavours to foster Tamil-Muslim amity
COLOMBO: A delegation from the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka met the
senior members of Political wing of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulihal
in Colombo on Monday to discuss issues relating to promoting
Tamil-Muslim relations.
They also plan to meet senior political leaders and representatives
of the Tamil National Alliance and the LTTE. Both parties agreed that
the friendship and relationship that exists between the Muslims and the
Tamila should be promoted and strengthened.
A joint statement was agreed upon between the Muslim Council of Sri
Lanka (MCSL) and the TMVP.
It was also decided to establish Friendship Committees consisting of
representatives of the two parties to be expanded to grass roots level.
The TMVP and MCSL would endeavour and ensure that the Tamil and
Muslim communities would adopt a policy of compromise in solving any
problem that may arise and work towards re-establishing the brotherly
and friendly relationship that prevailed between both communities.
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka delegation was led by its Chairman,
N.M. Ameen and included MCSL Steering Committee member and Secretary of
All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts Mr. Rasheed M. Imtiyas,
Steering Committee member and President of the All Ceylon YMMA
Conference Mr. Jiffry Haniffa and the Deputy General Secretary of the
All Ceylon Jamaath-e-Islami Dr. M.C.M. Maheez.
The TMVP was led by the Party Secretary Mrs. B. Padmini and included
Political Wing members V. Tileepan, A. Pradeep, party's political wing
member S. Gunalan, Peace Secretariat in-charge K. Mahesh and Media
spokesman Azad Moulana.
