Roads closed for Independence Day celebrations
COLOMBO: Several roads in Colombo will be closed on February 4
from 6.00 a.m. to noon for the Independence Day celebrations.
Roads closed for traffic:
Galle Road: From Traffic Signal Lights at Kollupitiya Junction
up to the Galle Face Roundabout.
Galle Face Centre Road: From Galle Face Roundabout up to the
Old Parliament Roundabout.
Perahera Mawatha and Nawam Mawatha: From James Peiris
Mawatha-Nawam Mawatha Junction up to Uttarananda Mawatha.
Justice Akbar Mawatha: From Malay Street-Justice Akbar Mawatha
Junction up to Aliya Naana Roundabout.
Sir Markan Makar Mawatha: From Aliya Naana Roundabout up to
Galle Face Roundabout.
Lotus Road: From Ceramic Junction up to the Old Parliament
Roundabout.
York Street: From Ceramic Junction up to Lady Bastian Mawatha.
Lady Bastian Mawatha: From York Street-Baron Jayatilleke
Mawatha Junction up to the YMBA Roundabout.
Baron Jayatilleke Mawatha: From Baron Jayatilleke Mawatha-York
Street Junction up to the Baron Jayatilleke Mawatha YMBA Roundabout.
Chaitya Road: From the Old Parliament Roundabout up to the
Colombo Harbour.
Alternatives to closed roads: Traffic on Galle Road bound
towards Pettah can turn from the Kollupitiya Traffic Signal Lights and
proceed along Dharmapala Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout, Pittala Junction,
Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Slave Island Traffic Signal Lights Junction,
Kumaran Ratnam Road, Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, Regal
Roundabout and reach Olcott Mawatha.
Traffic entering from YMBA Junction (Lotus Road-Baron Jayatilleke
Mawatha Junction)can proceed up to Lotus Road-Olcott Mawatha Junction
and reach the Pettah terminal.
Four schools closed
COLOMBO: Royal College, Thurstan College, D. S. Senanayake Vidyalaya
and Mahanama Vidyalaya in Colombo closed for Independence Day
celebrations from Wednesday will re-open on February 5, the Education
Ministry said in a release.
