Pharmacists for estate hospitals

COLOMBO: The Health Care and Nutrition Ministry has recruited 50 pharmacists under the direction of Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said that a number of countries have offered employments for Sri Lankan pharmacists but it is very difficult to find candidates with a credit pass for Chemistry in the Advanced Level Examination to train as pharmacists.

The Ministry has made arrangements to recruit persons with an ordinary pass for the subject in A/L as pharmacists and to provide them a three months foundation training on Chemistry and appoint them to the pharmacist's post.

They will be appointed to rural estate hospitals. This will end the severe shortage of pharmacists in several hospitals all over the country.
