March 03 eclipse visible in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: There will be a total eclipse of the Moon on March 3 Full
Moon Day which is visible from Sri Lanka.
During the eclipse, the Moon setting in the Western Sky is in Leo,
about 13 degrees east of the bright star Regulus.
The total phase lasts 73 minutes. This eclipse is unusual as it is
partly visible from very continent around the world.
During the Penumbral stage which begins at 1.48 a.m., there is only a
dimming of the brightness of the Moon which is not easy to notice. After
3 a.m., the Moon will start moving into the shadow cast of the earth by
the Sun.
From 4.14:13 a.m. to 5.27:37 a.m., the Moon is totally eclipsed
illuminated only by Earth light. Depending on atmospheric conditions it
may be seen glowing red in colour.
The partial eclipse ends after sunrise around 6.15 a.m. on the East
coast and 6.22 a.m. in Colombo and moonset at 6.29 a.m.
Keep your alarm to get up very early morning and enjoy the view from
any location with a clear view of the Western sky.
