Writing of school text books begins

COLOMBO: The writing of text books for 2008 will be started from the next week, said Educational Publications Department Commissioner General N. Dharmasena.

The text books writing on 78 subjects prescribed from Grade 7 to 11 according to fresh syllabi, will be entrusted with a Board of 15 academics in respect of each subject and after editing the new text books, open tenders will be called to print them by the first week of May this year, he said.

Accordingly, the new text books will be available by June, July and August and will be ready for distribution in September, he said.

The school text books distribution will follow a new methodology under the supervision of the Educational Publications Department from next year.

The Commissioner General expects to delegate powers on Provincial Directors who will see to the efficient distribution of text books without delay.
