China to finance major power projects

Including Second, Third phases of Norochcholai power plant:

The Chinese Government has expressed its consent to finance major power projects including the Second and Third Phases of the Norochcholai coal fired power plant project which will add 600 MWs to the National Grid, Power and Energy Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage who participated at bilateral talks with the Chinese Government officials here in Beijing, told the Daily News yesterday.

Two Chinese firms agree to begin work on Hambantota Port project

The discussions between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Chinese Government on Wednesday ended fruitfully with two Chinese engineering companies agreeing to begin construction work on the proposed Hambantota port within the next two months, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Vice Chairman Priyatha Bandu Wickrama told the Daily News yesterday.

Sale of telecom services to N-E through third parties banned

The Defence Ministry yesterday directed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to ban the sale of all telecom services through third parties in the North and East after evidence linking the LTTE of using the retail network for terrorist activities, a release from the Defence Ministry said.
