President calls for SAARC counter-terrorism strategy
'Region as a whole not safe from barbaric terror
groups' :
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday made a fervent
appeal to SAARC to work jointly on a counter-terrorism strategy for the
entire region to defeat terrorism. Addressing the inaugural session of
the 14th Summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation
in New Delhi, President Rajapaksa said: "Terrorism anywhere is terrorism
and is a global menace.

Peace, security essential for economic advancement within SAARC
region - Foreign Minister
"During the last two decades our association was
able to charter various projects and programmes to achieve the
objectives." "However, it is essential to have peace and security to
have meaningful economic and social progress in the SAARC region," said
Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama addressing the SAARC
Council of Ministers held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.
