WHEN the airport was attacked, the UNP, especially Ranil was happy.
He was so happy that he could gain a political milestone by telling the
public that the LTTE is winning and that terrorism cannot be defeated,
but the people should give in to terrorism.
Now he is not happy with the media because the media is not
supporting his party but the country’s effort to combat terrorism.
The LTTE does not need a spokesperson, for Ranil is doing it
effectively.
When our motherland was attacked for the first time by air, Ranil
Wickremesinghe was too busy to attend to an emergency meeting invited
for all political parties.
He was perhaps too busy with making plans to see how he could use the
air attack for his personal political advantage. This is such a low act.
I feel sorry for the members of the UNP for having such a low level
man as its leader. What leader is personally busy when his country was
attacked? He is not a leader but a selfish soul.
We need a stronger UNP, not a feeble organisation that uses every
loss of the country’s fight against terrorism to its advantage.
When your family is hit you do not do anything to the advantage of
the enemy. you stick with your family and support them. Ranil
Wickremesinghe is doing exactly the opposite.
We need a strong and caring opposition party for the democracy to
work for the benefit of the country.
What we have is not an opposition party but an agonising political
cancer that is trying to surface for power at every second at the cost
of the life blood of Sri Lanka.
He calls for the resignation of the Defence Secretary for the attack.
He can not remember who signed the infamous CFA that made the LTTE a
glorified terrorist outfit allowing it to enhance deadly weapons
including the planes that were used to hit the airport recently. He
should feel responsible for the attack.
He should resign from the party leadership and allow someone who is
patriotic to lead it.
Ranil Wickremesinghe should know that there is an exponentially
growing number of normal citizens who are disgusted by your vision of
putting the country behind before your personal interests. Shame on you!
The country is behind the President who is a real leader for the
first time in Sri Lanka!
Let us resolve to defeat terrorism!

I refer to Dr. Hector Perera’s response to my letter (DN March 24) in
connection with the traffic congestion at Borella junction.
While appreciating his views on the subject, I would like to
reiterate that my contention was to focus on the traffic light signals
at Borella junction (near the Bo tree) and the traffic approaching this
busy junction along Dr. N. M. Perera Mawatha.
The only short term solution to this, in my mind, would be to have
equal distribution of time settings to all sides, rather than penalising
motorists approaching the junction along Dr. N. M. Perera Mawatha.
As much as it would be a brilliant idea, under the prevailing road
building programmes in the country, Dr. Perera’s thoughts would be seen
as a long range shot.
What the motorists need immediately is remedial action to avert the
present chaotic situation.

THE voters who see this CFA of UNP as an understanding between Ranil
Wickremesinghe and Velupillai Prabhakaran suggested by Eric Solheim at
this stage wholeheartedly support President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s highly
commendable consideration to hold a referendum on the controversial
detrimental triangular CFA plot of the three unacceptable individuals.

AMNESTY International must come straight (Reference DN April 05). Are
you pro-LTTE? Do you understand what is terrorism? Otherwise do your
homework before you take sides. Tell Bush about terrorism! or Howard.
How do you cope with terrorism? May be AI should advise Bush about
Iraq instead of Sri Lanka.
AI needs to look at their members and do some cleansing before
jumping into politics. The current trend of terrorism has no rules,
everyone is a target, so is AI. Think about it?

I agree with the Daily News (Reference DN April 05). AI wants to
undermine the Sri Lankan team which has one of the best chances of
lifting the world cup Insha Allah. This is a dastardly act by Amnesty
International. This is the ulterior motive behind their smear campaign.
Go Mahela, you and the team can win it for Sri Lanka, our Motherland.

Thank you for bringing this matter to the cynosure of your local
reader community as well as the international community. (Reference DN
April 06).
Having discussed this matter with our expatriates here in Melbourne,
Australia, I feel that it is incumbent upon all of us as well as sports
loving people, to help eradicate the mis-information that the AI is
attempting to spread. AI’s act proves that,
1). They are bankrupt financially and morally.
They will do anything to earn their living. We had some respect for
AI, but it has lost its credibility and integrity.
2). Someone or some cricketers who believe that the Sri Lankan
cricket team is a threat to them may have provided financial assistance
to the AI to carry out this dirty and smere campaign.
3). It may be the LTTE is using their front organisations or
sympathisers in other foreign countries get the AI involved in this
matter to promote their image. (If they have one!)

Dear AI friends, I feel that you are at last trying to peck the wrong
tree by getting in to our Sport Cricket - although it’s a mere sport to
you it’s part of our blood. (Reference DN April 04) So please leave it,
if not 20 million people will not be happy with your organisation.
Please try to help Iraq and Afghanistan if you are jobless. Not with
our blood of Sport Cricket.

Amnesty International in their anti-Sri Lankan activities go against
not only the very spirit of sport, but also contradicts their own human
right principle. (Reference DN April 06).
The Human rights of 20 million people are forced to be ignored in
favour of a group of separatist terrorists. The LTTE that is the
backbone of this campaign against our participation in Cricket World Cup
2007.

I belong to the Muslim community, I never accept the Amnesty
International for criticising the cricket in my motherland Sri Lanka.
(Reference DN Apirl 01) The Amnesty International was named as a world
terror group by one of our former Ministers of Defence.
Therefore, do not bother about the above said group for criticising
our heroes of Sri Lanka or they cannot stop our going to the final of
the on going World Cup.
