LIGHTING UP DELFT
The Navy and the Ceylon Electricity Board yesterday gave the people of Delft island a New Year gift in the form of a generator which will light up 1,800 households. The Navy, which freed the island from the grip of terrorists, transported the 250 Kv generator on board Ranagaja Navy vessel from Kankesanthurai. The Northern Naval Command fulfilled this long-felt need on a request by Bishop of Jaffna Rt. Rev. Thomas Saundranayagam. The generator was received by Rev. Fr. Arulnesan, a resident of Delft.

SAARC nod for Lanka's anti-terror proposals

Regional Summit an overwhelming success, says Foreign Minister :

The voice of Sri Lanka against terrorism was unanimously endorsed by all SAARC countries who proposed that terrorism should be condemned in all its forms and manifestations, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said yesterday.

Japan gives Rs. 30 b for Hydropower Project :

The second phase of the 150 MW Upper Kotmale power project launched yesterday and the proposed Norochcholai coal power plant and Kerawalapitiya power project will be able to generate additional power to meet the rapidly growing energy needs of the country, Power and Energy Minister John Seneviratne said.

Three sea tigers arrested in India

Three sea tiger cadres Devajodeeswaran, Sugandan and Justinnraj of Mannar and Jaffna who had registered themselves at the Mandapam Transit camp in Ramanathapuram, Southern India as refugees has been arrested by the Indian Police.
