Positive growth continues at the Port of Colombo in 2007
CONTAINER HANDLING: The Port of Colombo has moved a total of 817,578
TEUs during the first quarter of 2007 against 647,977 TEUs for the same
period in 2006, marking a year-on-year growth of 26.2%.
In addition, subsequent to the signing of the Collective Agreement
between the management and the trade unions of the Sri Lanka Ports
Authority, the SLPA achieved 100% attendance throughout the New Year
holidays for the first time ever, and productivity on the JCT has
started to increase.
Due to this solidarity between trade unions, workers and management,
a total of 1256 moves were handled on container vessels Delmas Kasi, MSC
Suez, Ever Utile, Nedlloyd Europe and Zim USA calling at the Jaya
Container Terminal (JCT) over this period.
