Troops repulse LTTE attacks

MADHU: Troops on a foot patrol repulsed an LTTE attack and killed five LTTEers north-east of Madhu on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 6 p.m and no casualties to the troops were reported, Defence sources said.

Meanwhile several Police posts in the Vavuniya-Mannar main supply route came under LTTE fire on Saturday. Police retaliated causing heavy casualties to the Tigers. No casualties were reported to either civilians or Police, sources said.

Two bullet riddled bodies believed to be of LTTE cadres were found at Neppawaduwan in Batticaloa on Saturday afternoon. Police are conducting investigations.

Troops successfully repulsed an LTTE attack on the Forward Defence Lines in Ethawetunuwewa in the Welioya area.

LTTE mortars had fallen on an adjoining village but no casualties were reported.

The LTTE fled the area amidst heavy fire from the troops, defence sources said.
