Uditha, Sapuni Chess Champions

CHESS: Uditha Madushan Jayasundara (Nalanda College) won the under 12 boys chess title while Sapuni Charuka Cooray (Devi Balika Vidyalaya) won the girls title at the Western Province chess championship worked off at the Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte yesterday.

His brother K.D. Tharusha Madushan Jayasundara (Nalanda College) clinched the boys under 10 title with his team mate W. Janitha Kalhara Mendis and Lasitha Lahiru Kolabage (Ananda College) ended up as first runner up and second respectively.

In the girls under 10 category K.Y. Savindi Mudaligama (Girls’ High School, Mount Lavinia) finished as the champion.

Amila Abeyratne (Holy Cross College, Kalutara) became the boys under 8 winner while Buddhini Kulatillake (Lanka Sabha Junior School, Battaramulla) emerged champion in the same age girls category.

Girls- Champion: Buddhini Kulatillake (Lanka Sabha Junior School, Battaramulla), 2. Thanusha Sachinthi Vithana (CWW Kannangara Vidyalaya, Kalutara), 3. Malidi Prasanna Ratnayake (Lyceum International School, Nugegoda)
