Chandrika wins bronze

BOXING: Sri Lanka’s Chandrika Guruge won a bronze medal at the Ahamed Cup International Women’s Boxing Championships concluded in Istanbul, Turkey recently.

Chandrika performed her feat while competing in the women’s under 46 kgs class event where she lost to a Russian opponent on points in the semi-finals.

Before that Chandrika had the better of a Turkish player in the first round and also defeated her opponent from Egypt in the quarter-finals. This was also her fourth medal which she had won in an international meet.

Sri Lanka were represented by four members at this meet with the rest of the competitors failing to get pass the first round. Competitors from a total of 22 countries participated in this tournament.
