Lankan nominated for energy award

COLOMBO: Executive Director, of Integrated Development Association (IDEA), Kandy R.M. Amerasekera has been nominated for the World Clean Energy Awards 2007 in the trade and services sector.

His name, among the 70 nominees from 20 countries was announced in New York by former UNEP Director General Professor Ernst Ulrich von Weizs„cker President of the jury for the World Clean Energy Awards.

The nominations recognise the projects that implement and encourage the broad-based use of renewable energies and energy efficiency concepts.

Amerasekera has been nominated for implementing the Commercialisation of the Improved Wood Stove Project in Sri Lanka.

Amerasekera is a former Director of Energy Conservation Fund, of the Power and Energy Ministry and an electrical engineer, CEB. He has served as the chief technical advisor of UNDP Renewable Energy Project in Sudan.
