Agra, the newest dining experience in town

RESTAURANT: Agra, the latest authentic North Indian restaurant in Colombo was opened recently, at Independence Avenue, Colombo 7, and the management is looking at opening more branches all over the world.

"We have built a new brand image by introducing Agra and we want to give out this franchise to the world," said Director Lily Entertainment Maldives, Mohamed Naseer Shiva. He said that Indian food is the second most demanded food in the world after Italian food and this was why they decided to come out with an Indian resultant.

Shiva who is one of the three investors of this BoI approved venture said that four chefs who have been specially brought from North India to prepare food. The restaurant the newest dining experience in town is designed to attract and satisfy food connoisseurs, having ample parking space for the convenience of its guests and has a private garden too.

Shiva who manages two resorts in the Maldives said that they would also look at investing in the leisure sector in Sri Lanka so that they could sell both destinations. Inspired by the Moghul Empire, whose best-known symbol of passion is the Taj Mahal, at Agra, the restaurant has been designed taking the cultural and architectural elements into consideration, from the decor to the interior design of the restaurant.

The interior of the restaurant consisted of a fusion of colour, with a combination of black, yellow and white and has a capacity to host 100 guests, along with a private garden, ideal for the hosting of private receptions.

He said that more people like to dine out in Colombo and they hope to attract up market clients to Agra.

Launched with a colorful three-day event, which started at 7PM, a cross section of society from the fields of drama, film, sports, business, political, and the media attended, with the final day for the media. Entertainment in the form of Bhangra and contemporary Hindi music as well as fortunetellers and sitar players added to the festive atmosphere.
