TIE-UP: Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel joined with the Faculty of
Graduate Studies (FGS)- University of Colombo to introduce the
M-Learning concept to Sri Lanka.
"M-learning" goes a step further changing the way in which education
is delivered and received, and is a promising path way to obtaining
higher education that will deliver value to the country, Dean of the FGS
Prof Lakshman Dissanayake told the Daily News.
He said that SLT Mobitel is the main connectivity provider and FGS
has come to an agreement with three leading Korean IT companies launch
this concept. "To develop this concept we are trying to learn
possibilities to introduce mobile learning concept to Sri Lanka. For
that I am getting assistance from Kangwon National University, Korea and
Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)", Prof. Dissanayake
said.
He said that the revolution in the field of information technology
has amazing impact in the field of education. Rapid development in this
field made education easier, faster and cheaper and could cover the
students across cities, countries and even continents, he said.
He said that traditionally, formal classroom based education was
adopted, which allowed a teacher and student to have face-to-face
interaction.
However, this approach has noticeable drawbacks in that it requires a
student's physical presence and participation, which is an integral part
of an institution's curriculum. |
