Fort Railway Station to be made more people-friendly
COLOMBO: Unauthorised structures within the Fort Railway
Station premises will be removed from July 1 to give a facelift to the
Fort Railway Station.
Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has taken this decision and
with the implementation of this plan, structures that were there over
the past two decades will be a thing of the past.
The Fort Railway Station is the main railway station in the country.
The structures that had come up with no proper planning near the railway
station makes the premises look ugly.
People going to the station have only one main entry point and which
cannot cater to the masses, causing a lot of hardships to them.
Minister Alahapperuma pointed out that the Public Bus Stand at Pettah
has been transformed into a better and attractive place for the people,
by the removal of the unauthorised structures.
In similar fashion, measures would be taken to make the Fort Railway
Station a pleasant place to visit and relax for those who patronise it,
he said.
He also appreciated the support coming from various institutions and
organisations to make both the Public Bus Stand and Fort Railway Station
pleasant places to visit.
"The generous support of the public has made it possible for the
Government to achieve this goal without spending a cent from the
Government coffers," the Minister said. |
