Mahinda to felicitate its Test cricketers today

CRICKET: Mahinda College, Galle will felicitate its cricket
stars at a ceremony on June 1st at the College Hall.
A large number of cricket stars, whom Mahinda College produced and
went onto play for the National cricket team will be felicitated at the
ceremony.
Latest heart-throb Lasith Malinga, former captain Marvan Atapattu all
rounder Upul Chandana, former opener Athula Smarasekera and spinner
Jayananda Warnaweera are among the Test players to be felicitated at the
ceremony while the late D.L.S. de Silva who represented Sri Lanka in the
Pre-Test era (1971-1979) will also be remembered. The cricketers will be
received by the Old Boys at the heart of Galle town and will be taken to
the college in open-top vehicles.
"We greatly appreciate the good work done by the cricketers.
They have been able not only to keep the National Flag Flying high in
the international arena, but they have also made their alma mater
proud", a spokesman of the Old Boys Association told the Daily News. "We
congratulate Lasith Malinga for his superb performance at the World Cup
and we will express our gratitude to all other players who have done the
country proud" he added.
The cricketers will be presented with awards at the ceremony which
will start at 9.00 a.m.
Apart from the cricketers the services rendered by the past coaches
of Mahinda College and the Masters in-charge of Cricket who served
during the school days of these cricketers will also be publicly
appreciated. |
