215 housing units to replace line rooms in N'Eliya district

NUWARA-ELIYA: The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA)
with the financial assistance of Nation Building and Estate
Infrastructure Development Ministry (NBEIDM) under the coordination of
Housing Development and common amenities Ministry (HDCEM) has
implemented a permanent housing development project to replace line
rooms for plantation workers in the Nuwara-Eliya District.
Under this programme 215 housing units will be constructed in the
district at a cost of Rs.89 million. Construction work on 123 houses
have been completed so far. Each housing unit was constructed at a cost
of Rs. 400,000.
Fifty two housing units in Injesty Estate-Dickoya, 12 housing units
in Mayfield Estate-Kotagala and 88 housing units in Dunsinane Estate-Pundaluoya
have been constructed.
In addition 20 housing units in Wavendon Estate-Kotmale, 13 housing
units in Edinburg Estate-Nanu-oya and 30 housing units in
Bogahawatta-Patana have been constructed for plantation sector workers.
Twenty two housing units constructed in Dunsinane Estate Pundaluoya
were handed over to the beneficiaries by Nation Building and Estate
Infrastructure Development Deputy Minister Muththu Sivalingam at a
ceremony.
The aim of the Nation Building Ministry is to provide permanent
shelter for plantation workers who lived in line rooms for decades
according to NHDA sources. |
