FCCISL-BPI ties up with BCIS to promote 'Skills for Conflict
Resolution'
MOU: The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka
(FCCISL) entered into an MOU with Bandaranaike Centre for International
Studies (BCIS) to conduct a series of residential rapid courses on
'Skills for Conflict Resolution for local business leaders' for the
members of the FCCISL in conflict affected and conflict sensitive areas
under the auspices of 'The Business for Peace Initiative.'
The first rapid course in the series of courses will end on June 6 at
Goldi Sands Hotel, Negombo. Members from Jaffna Women's Chamber of
Commerce, Industry and Agri Business, Chamber of Commerce and Industries
of Yarlpanam, Jaffna Chamber of Commerce, Kilinochchi District Chamber
of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Vavuniya District Chamber of
Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Batticaloa District Chamber of
Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Ampara District Chamber of Commerce,
Industry and Agriculture, Anuradhapura District Chamber of Commerce,
Industry and Agriculture, Mannar District Chamber of Commerce, Industry
and Agriculture, Matale District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and
Agriculture, Monaragala District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and
Agriculture, Polonnaruwa District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and
Agriculture, Puttalam District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and
Agriculture, Trincomalee District Chamber of Commerce and Industry and
Traders Association in Kalmunai were to participate in the inaugural
rapid course.
Under the present agreement, the BCIS was responsible for the
development of a tailor-made curriculum, training material and
successful implementation of the Rapid Course using well-qualified and
experienced facilitators for the members of the FCCISL.
Secretary-General of FCCISL Samantha Abeywickrama speaking to the
gathering at the MOU signing ceremony said that FCCISL BPI is a national
endeavour for fostering peace and harmony through entrepreneurial spirit
and it has already embarked on several key important activities of
national importance.
This rapid course he added would provide the chamber leaders in the
affected areas and bordering areas necessary skills to deal with
conflict and play a constructive role in maintaining peace and harmony
and contribute towards sustainable peace building from the business
community point of view.
Abeywickrama also said that it is important for local business
leaders to have a theoretical understanding and practical exposure on
best practices of peace building and conflict management which will
enhance their capacity to function as peace entrepreneurs.
Director, BCIS, Dr. Thusitha Tennakoon said that FCCISL and BCIS
understanding would pave way for many more joint initiatives towards
bringing peace through conflict resolution. |
