Sri Lanka untainted and victorious

Much to the chagrin and disappointment of those who were bent on tarnishing and damning Sri Lanka’s image, the country has scored a major victory at the hearings of the European Parliament Development Committee in Brussels.

The European Parliament Development Committee, we learn, has not only cleared Sri Lanka of the allegations levelled against her in relation to the use of post-tsunami reconstruction funds and human rights issues but also pledged to funnel more funds to this country for post-tsunami rebuilding.

So effective has Sri Lanka’s rebuttal been of these allegations which have been found to hold no water after all.

Thus Sri Lanka’s critics, both local and foreign, are having egg on their faces in their crusade to portray Sri Lanka as a paradise blighted by corruption, misuse of financial assistance and human rights abuses.

Those parading these allegations are driven by short-term considerations. In the case of those local political personalities and parties which are out to damn Sri Lanka on these allegations, it is plain to see that their aim is to muster some short-term political gain.

In the case of those groups, such as NGOs and INGOs of dubious repute, it is plain to see that they are out to make a quick buck at the expense of Sri Lanka. To the extent to which the latter denigrate Sri Lanka in the eyes of the world, would their coffers, both private and institutional, be replenished.

However, the world cannot be fooled. As demonstrated by the European Parliament Development Committee, it could be clearly perceived that it is the LTTE which is breeding the plethora of problems currently faced by Sri Lanka.

It is the LTTE which has been proving recalcitrant and uncooperative in efforts to end our conflict by political means.

The world saw, for instance, how all the peace overtures of the State were shunned by the Tigers through a stubborn resistance to attempts at negotiating a solution. Instead, the Tigers have been making their intention very plain to keep Sri Lanka on the boil.

They have been steadily undermining the CFA over the years to wield a whip hand over the civilian population of the North-East. They have not only continuously attacked the Security Forces but gone to the extent of disrupting the movements of State food convoys to the North-East.

Having lost almost all ground to the Security Forces in the East, the Tigers are now intent on deflecting the attention of the Security Forces from the North-East by ruthlessly attacking civilian targets in the South.

Innocent blood is being wantonly spilt on the highways of the South by an utterly desperate LTTE.

All this the world clearly sees and it is not going to be fooled by the anti-Lanka propaganda mindlessly swilled by the critics of the country. Thus Sri Lanka emerges untainted and victorious.

Look at what rich nations do, not what they say

The pressure to which the U.S. Government and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have subjected the Philippines Government is at odds with almost everything the G8 now claims to stand for: the millennium health and education goals, the eradication of poverty, fair terms of trade.

LTTE faces heavy setback in Vavuniya battles

Eastern resettlement firmly on track:

Though the Security Forces are greatly committed to the Ceasefire Agreement the Tiger outfit made use of the Ceasefire to spy on the Security Forces’ defences and gun positions as they were not genuinely committed to the Ceasefire Agreement. Prior to the Tiger assault on the Jaffna defences in August last year, the Tiger outfit made use of the A-9 road which was opened for the public to induct more than 80 men for direct observation of the artillery gun positions of the Security Forces ahead of the Muhamalai FDL.
