Private bus driver sentenced to 1 year’s RI

COLOMBO: Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara yesterday
sentenced a private bus driver to a one year Rigorous Imprisonment after
he pleaded guilty for killing a person in an accident.
Private bus driver Ganeshan Anandan was convicted for committing
culpable homicide not amounting to murder of Mohideen Baba Nilabdeen at
Peliyagoda on May 30, 2005. Mohideen met with the accident in front of
Panapitiya Timber stores at Peliyagoda.
The Court also cancelled the driving licence of the bus driver for
five years and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 and another six months’ RI
in default.
The Court further ordered the convict to pay a compensation of Rs.
200,000 to victim’s four children.
Nilabdeen was a resident of Kotabowa, Medagama. He was employed as a
waiter at a hotel at Peliyagoda. |
