Minister Amunugama meets German bankers
TOUR: Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Dr.
Sarath Amunugama on the last leg of his German tour met with leading
bankers and investors in Frankfurt, last week.
He met with Wolfgang Kroh, Member of the Board of Managing Directors
of KFW, which is the leading development bank of Germany. KFW has
several on-going projects in Sri Lanka. The progress of these projects,
particularly, lending for small and medium scale enterprises, through
NDB and DFCC was discussed, and both parties agreed that these projects
have been an outstanding success.
Minister Amunugama requested the bank authorities to persuade the
Ministry of Development Co-operation to expand DFW lending to Sri Lanka.
Meetings were also held with high officials of the Deutshe Bank and
Landesbank of Baden-Wuttemberg, regarding financing of projects by the
private sector in Sri Lanka.
Particularly, attention was paid to the proposal submitted by Dorsch
Group of Germany to undertake the construction of the Weerawila Airport
and runway.
The Directorate for Dorsch Group expressed its willingness to
undertake the above mentioned mega project and stated that it would be
discussing funding arrangements with the German government. |
