Good opportunity for youngsters to prove - Mahela

Cricket: The Sri Lanka cricket captain, Mahela Jayawardene,
addressing the media at the press briefing last evening in connection
with the three ODIs and three test matches against Bangladesh for the 'Laqshya'
trophy that was on display, reemphasized the need for opportunities to
be given for up and coming aspiring cricketers to play and gain the much
needed experience and, felt that this series would serve that purpose.
He was however quick to assert that Bangladesh cricket had made vast
strides and with more cricket would make steady progress, the world cup
is case in point. Mahela cleared any doubts that some had by affirming
that Sangakkara would be seen in action.
He concluded by saying that challenge is what they need to accept and
grapple with. Mohamed Ashraful, the Bangladesh cricket captian was of
the view that the game was on the up in Bangladesh and that they were
improving with every game.
The SLC secretary, K. Mathivanan, said that they were thankful to the
Bangladesh cricket team for coming over, which has arisen from the fine
rapport that exists between the respective cricket boards.
This has led he stressed, to mutual understanding that has resulted
in reciprocal tours, that has enabled Bangladesh to raise standards.
Mathivanan expressed SLC's thanks to the Group Vhief Dtrategy Officer,
Laqshya, Chetan Madaya for coming forward to act as sponsors.
The Manager of the Bangladesh teame, Ali Asif Khan said that it would
not be advisable to reveal too much, but be as secretive and play hard
to be as competitive as possible. Chetan Madaya speaking on behalf of
the sponsors said that his company was based in India and was hopeful
hope of establishing a unit in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are doing well at cricket, with India
lagging behind and so Chetan felt the prospect for markets here was good
and wished both teams the best. |
