Ishani sets new record

ATHLETICS: Ishani Edirisinghe, Dambulla National School was the cynosure of all eyes on the first day of the John Tarbat Trophy Schools Athletic Championships which began at Public grounds Anurdhapura.

She cleared a height of 1.56 meters to set up a new record for the event. The earlier record stood at 1.55 m set by Buddhika Indrani of Taxila MMV, Horana.

H.M.R.I. Bandara (Sirimavo BMV) and P.H.A. Ishara (Southland Balika MV) were placed second and third respectively.

The meet which will be continued today and tomorrow at the same venue is organised by the Department of Education and is sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.

Boys and Girls numbering over 3800 from 310 schools from all parts of the country are competing in different age categories.
